Super Six Results
Ok so as you know the super six tournament began last Saturday. The results were Arthur Abraham winning by KO late in the 12th round against Jermain Taylor, and Carl Froch getting a split decision against Andre Dirrell. Arthur Abraham vs Jermain Taylor was not neccessarily action packed as it should have been but there were moments in the matchup that delivered to the fans. The ninth round Abraham had Taylor hurt and when it looked like Taylor was finished he somehow found a way to stay on his feet. The ending was sad just when it looked like Jermain Taylor was going to stay on his feet and prove the doubters wrong, he ended up knocked out and going to the hospital seconds later. This knockout was one of the saddest i've seen since I began watching the sport. I seen Roy Jones, Mike Tyson, and Oscar De La Hoya get stopped but, nothing was compared to this. This is because Jermain Taylor keeps getting the same result. He's the star of the tournament as far as the United States side is concerned and hes a former undisputed middleweight champion. He was heralded as the future of boxing and two years ago was one of the best fighters pound for pound. Now he's Jermain Taylor fighter who burns out at the end and gets KO'd. In this matchup Jermain had his technique down throwing the jab and moving to Arthur Abraham's right away from the left hand he likes to sneak in. But there was a point deduction for a low blow, and more than likely he had a 10-8 in the round he was hurt knowing the judges in Germany. Towards the end Arthur Abraham rallied back was winning the fight in the final round with Jermain Taylor needing to get the knockout. It ended with Jermain Taylor completely knocked out worse than against Pavlik and Froch. Now we're left wondering whether or not Taylor should continue fighting in this tournament or let Allan Green and Edision Miranda fight for that spot in the Super Six. I hope Taylor makes the right decision for himself soon. In the championship bout of Andre Dirrell vs Carl Froch there was a lot of rough housing and holding coming from each fighter. In the tenth round Andre Direll was deducted a point for holding and his grandfather told him to go for the knockout in the final round which he didnt get. The matchup resulted in split decision for Carl Froch. Many refer to this as a robbery, in which it wasnt. This matchup was very close and depending on what you were looking for in the bout either one of these men could have won this matchup. In the early rounds Dirrell frustrated Froch with a sharp single stiff jab, but he abandoned that style in the mid rounds when he started to hold. In the round where his point was deducted Dirrell hurt Froch and was seconds away from getting a knockdown. My card the matchup was 114-113 7 rounds to 5 with the point deduction. Overall Saturday was a great night of boxing and I hope we get to see the same next month on November 21st with Andre Ward vs Mikkel Kessler for the WBA Super Middleweight Championship
