My Thoughts on Winky Wright

Sorry for my analysis post i've been having trouble with my computer at home but i'll be sure to post my interviews with Dimitiry Salita and Billy Dib this weekend. Winky Wright is one of the best defensive boxers in boxing. He perfected a defense that not only fighters have trouble breaking, but have trouble keeping composure as well. You have to respect Winky hes a future hall of famer, I dont think he'll get in on the first try but he's definately a future hall of famer. I think that its a shame that he cant get any good fights for himself. He took a near 2 year layoff from boxing, simply because he was unable to land a fight. I dont believe the rumors of him pricing himself out of fights, because truly I think Winky Wright is worth millions. He came up the hard way in boxing, he worked his way up in Europe, fought for a few years, came back and fought some good competition in the United States. He was robbed in his matchup with Fernando Vargas, but he had an impressive showing. Over the years Winky had improved his defense and by the time he fought Shane Mosley in 2003 he had a defensive shell that nobody could break. Winky could hit you with a hard counter and quickly get back into that shell. It would confuse his opponents and frustrate them. It was hard to hurt Winky because none of your shots were landing flush. This man has probably one of the best defensive shells in all of boxing. His defense is great, it can be up there with the defense of Willie Pep and Pernell Whitaker but, there are times Winky gets hit with flush shots. Paul Williams continually penetrated that shell in their outing back in April, and Hopkins was able to land some flush shots. In his last four outings hes had a draw, a win, and 2 back to back losses. People are wondering if this is the end for Winky Wright? My answer to this is that it doesnt have to be. Winky Wright has the potential to become a champion in the middleweight division, and if he wanted to he can be weight drained at 154 and become a champion there, because with his defense nobody will land flush on him. People refer to Winky Wright fights as boring, but these people dont understand boxing. As long as your using a style that benefits you then your doing fine. Winky wins with that defensive shell, and his career can last much longer because he hasnt taken as many hard shots as many of the other fighters. Winky is a smart fighter, and his defense opens up opportunities, to do many things such as counter, confuse, and frustrate his opponent its all a part of boxing. I hope Winky continues with his career and gets some big fights because hes still a big fight attraction as seen in the Paul Williams fight.
